“Absolute Condemnation of No One” Art in a Polarized World
Monday, October 4, 2021 at 7pm ET via Zoom Webinar“Absolute Condemnation of No One” Art in a Polarized World with Dr. Cornel West and Thomas Chatterton Williams will be a robust and engaging conversation which explores the place of the arts and the artist in a world that is fiercely divided along ideological lines. It will examine the arts as both a battleground but also as a possible bridge  across difference. Dr. West refers to himself as a Chekovian Christian by which he means that while he devotes his life to the well being and betterment of “the least of these” he refuses to dehumanize those who thrive in a world based on injustice. When Thomas Chatterton Williams says-“The whole point of art…is that it gets us out of our own backyards. It links us to the human community. It links us across time, across geography. It speaks universal thoughts and feelings to us. That’s the whole beauty of art.” he affirms a vision of art as an expression of and aspiration for transcendent humanism.
