Single Tickets on Sale for “Building a Non-Profit Theater” Symposium

September 16, 2011

Single tickets are currently on sale (smarttix.com) for the opening night event of the Harold Clurman Festival of the Arts, Building a Non-Profit Theater, held this Monday, September 19 at 7pm with Gordon Davidson (Center Theater Group), Jim Houghton, (Signature Theater), Anne Bogart (SITI Company) and Jeffrey Horowitz (Theater for a New Audience) for a talk moderated by Colin Greer (New World Foundation).  The Building a Non-Profit Theater panel was conceived to inspire and challenge the next generation of American theater makers. Five hundred students, emerging twenty-something theater artists, come through the Studio each year. This panel creates a conversation between the established leaders of our theater and rising artists and producers; it creates a tradition of transmission between two generations of artists. In the same way that Sarah Bernhardt’s handkerchief has been handed down to Helen Hayes, Julie Harris, Susan Strasberg, and Cherry Jones, this panel connects American theater makers with their artistic heritage and reminds them of our art’s aspirations, goals and greatest potential. This panel was conceived with the hope that the conversation will inspire young people to make important, socially relevant theater in the tradition of the Group Theater, the Public Theater and so on.
