Programs

Adler Outreach provides various training programs. Here are some:

Adler Youth - a one year program for high school students. Adler Youth students self select to be in the program and an interview is required for admittance. Adler Youth train twice a week at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting in Voice and Speech, Movement, Improvisation and Adler Technique.

Summer Shakespeare - A four week intensive for high school students. Students study Adler Technique, Voice and Speech, and Movement, and then apply the skills they learned to work on and present a Shakespeare scene. Shakespeare movies were used as a reference point to compare and discuss the relevance and actuality of the work of the playwright.

In school workshops - These workshops are taught during class time. The Director of Outreach works with teachers on a case by case basis to determine what kind of classes would be most beneficial for students, taking into consideration school curriculum. In school workshops meet anywhere from one to six times per term and often serve as a pilot program for additional, long term in class training.

OST/Out of School Time - An out of school time pilot program was implemented in the 2005-2006 school year with the advisement of Mike Dogan of the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development. Depending on the success of the pilot, a 2006-2007 program and beyond are in planning.

After school workshops - These workshops are taught after school, either in community centers or schools. Locations are secured and information shared with communities with the help of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, Beacon Centers and other community organizations.

Internships - New York City public high school students have interned at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting in many departments, including outreach, development, set design and with teaching faculty in classes ranging from movement to Shakespeare. The Director of Outreach maintains contact with all interns during their time at the Studio to provide guidance and observe and encourage growth.

Teacher Training - Starting in the Fall semester of 2006 New York City public school teachers have been observing actor training at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting. The instructor they observe serves as a mentor and answers any questions they may have.

Private Coaching - One on one sessions with an acting instructor for special help, including audition advisement.

Scholarships - Outreach work is extended by granting scholarships to the most promising students to the Adler Teenage Program, an intensive, five week, thirty hour per week summer program with classes in Voice and Speech, Movement, Scene Study, Shakespeare and Adler Technique.
