New York City Department of Education Blueprint for the Arts

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Outreach Programs adhere to and often exceed to the benchmarks set in the New York City Department of Education's Blueprint for the Arts. According to the Department of Education, The Blueprint is a sequential approach to teaching and learning in visual arts, music, dance and theater for students from kindergarten through grade 12. Education Chancellor Klein conceived of the blueprint to provide schools with a standardized, high-quality approach to teaching and learning in the arts.

For example, the Adler Youth and Summer Shakespeare programs meet the following "Twelfth grade Theater Making: Acting" benchmarks:

  • Students increase their ability as imaginative and analytical actors while continuing to participate as collaborative ensemble members.
  • Students demonstrate the ability to reflect on and think critically about their work.
  • Through sequential and sustained activities in various theater forms, students improve upon and gain new performance skills.
  • Students model proficiency in an area of acting by leading workshops, demonstrations and in performance.
