In 1969, The Stella Adler Studio of Acting became the first professional training school to become affiliated with New York University's Tisch School of the Arts Undergraduate Drama Department. The program has continued since, leading students to a bachelor of fine arts degree, which combines academic studies at New York University with professional training at the Studio. Here is the curriculum of this four year program, year by year.
In the third year, the students are assigned a mentor, a faculty member who closely monitors the student's progress throughout the third year. These mentors observe their mentees in class and often direct them in a production. Students also partake in a Classical Intensive, and On-Camera Realism Work. During the year, special workshops are often arranged with professionals such as Philip Seymour Hoffman, Benicio Del Toro, Matthew Modine, Frank Langella, and Alfred Molina.
The Fourth Year
In the fourth year, otherwise known as the Company, the students devote all their studio time to rehearsal. They perform two plays each semester, and finish off with an industry showcase. Students also have a class in the business of the industry, taught by renowned actor and director, Peter Flynn.
