Clurman Arts Series
Harold Clurman Lab
the david oppenheim concert series

The David Oppenheim Concert Series has the dual mission of supporting the vital musical forms of Jazz and Classical music, both of which are suffering from audience attrition, while providing students and the surrounding community with an essential artistic experience.

After five years of the Harold Clurman Lecture Series devoted exclusively to theater artists we began to feel that young actors had a great deal to learn from non theater artists, from musicians, dancers and poets.

The standards for Jazz and Classical musicians are so much clearer and more objective than for actors. It would be very healthy for actors to be in the company of performing artists who, of necessity, must practice long hours with great discipline for many years to achieve professional proficiency, let alone artistic excellence. Furthermore, if one's ability to grow into a mature actor/ theater artist depends upon the growth of one's humanity, then being conversant with and aware of other art forms is essential. The Harold Clurman Concert Series is dedicated to these two educational goals.

Efforts to regenerate young audiences for Jazz and Classical music come from the realization that due to a number of societal factors, young people are loosing contact with vital forms of human artistic expression. Jazz and Classical music are two important examples, but there are many more. Gore Vidal dubbed this country the United States of Amnesia. The Harold Clurman Concert Series aims to reverse the trend of political ignorance and social unawareness by expanding minds and re-igniting passion through great music. These events are free and open to the public.
