2.5 Conservatory Program & Evening Conservatory Program
Admission to either conservatory program is by interview and audition. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, and must submit the following:
  1. A completed application form.
  2. .
  3. Two letters of recommendation, including the referee's address and telephone number. The letters should be from teacher or persons who can supply a recommendation as to the applicant's character and potential. Referees may be contacted directly.

  5. A $50 non-refundable application fee (payable to Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Inc).

The audition should consist of two monologues, one classical and one contemporary, no longer than two minutes each. Phone Interviews and DVD Auditions are acceptable, if necessary. After the interview and audition have taken place, applicants will be formally notified phone regarding their acceptance in the program.

Shakespeare Intensive & the Chekhov Intensive

Admission to the Shakespeare and Chekhov Intensives are by interview and audition. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, and must submit the following:
  1. A completed application form
  2. Headshot and Resume
  3. A $35 non-refundable application fee (payable to Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Inc)
Summer Conservatory & Physical Theater Intensive

Admission to the Summer Conservatory and the Physical Theatre Intensive are by entrance interview. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, and must submit the following:
  1. Completed application form.
  2. Headshot and Resume.
  3. A $35 non-refundable application fee (payable to Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Inc)
Phone Interviews are acceptable, if necessary. Interviews are held with Admissions Department for the Summer Conservatory, and with the Head of Movement for the Physical Theatre Intensive.

Summer Teenage Conservatory

Admission to the Summer Teenage Conservatory is by interview and audition. Applicants must be between 14 and 17 years of age, and must submit the following:
  1. Completed application form.
  2. Two letters of recommendation, including the referee's address and telephone number. The letters should be from teacher or persons who can supply a recommendation as to the applicant's character and potential. Referees may be contacted directly.

Weekend Teenage Conservatory

Admission to the Weekend Teenage Conservatory program is by entrance interview with the Director of Teenage Programs. Applicants must be between 14 and 17 years of age, and must call the studio at 212-689-0087 to schedule an appointment.

Workshops & the Evening Introductory Program

Admission to Seasonal Workshops and the Evening Introductory Program are by entrance interview. Applicants must call the studio at 212-689-0087 and schedule an appointment or submit a Interview Request via email. Please note that some workshops may have additional requirements such as an audition, prerequisites, or invitation.

Video Auditions

Applicants who do not live in the tri-state area may send a DVD audition (VHS acceptable, but not preferred). The DVD Audition must be submitted along with the completed application requirements for each program. Please make sure the DVD is in the NTSC format for proper play in American DVD players. An interview must follow all auditions, and they may occur over the phone for those not in the tri-state area.

Foreign Students

"This school is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant students." Foreign students must meet the following requirements:
  1. Fluency in English.
  2. A completed application submitted with all appropriate supplemental materials.
  3. If a foreign applicant is unable to interview in person, a telephone interview should be arranged and an NTSC-format audition videotape should be submitted. The applicant must also explain in writing why he or she wants to attend the Studio, including a brief biography.
  4. Applicant must submit proof of anticipated source of income (a bank statement or letter from a parent, guardian, or sponsor confirming financial support sufficient to enable the applicant to remain in the United States during the term of study). Please note that foreign students may not work while living in the United States.
Admission to all programs and workshops is by interview and/or audition.

Housing



Housing costs are not included in the price for tuition. The studio has a relationship with Educational Housing Services, a Not-for-Profit company that provides affordable and safe housing for students in the city. Housing is available for the summer term only for early registration. Payment and registration will be handled through Educational Housing Services directly.

Housing for the 2.5 Year Conservatory and the Evening Conservatory is the responsibility of the student. Please contact Johnny Yoder directly at 212-689-0087 for more information about housing.

Tuition

All fees are payable by specified dates before the beginning of each semester. Unless otherwise agreed to, all late payments are subject to a late payment charge of 2% per month.

Certification

Upon satisfactory completion of the 2.5 Year Conservatory, the Full-time Evening Program, or a Summer Program (including all required hours, courses, and projects), graduating students will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Evaluations

Every student enrolled in the 2.5 Year Conservatory Program or the Evening Conservatory is continuously evaluated by the faculty and given guidance regarding the student's progress and growth. Formal evaluations, in the form of faculty interviews, are given each semester.

Grounds for Dismissal

Students may be dismissed from any program of the Stella Adler Studio due to inappropriate behavior, absences, repeated tardiness, or, in the opinion of the faculty, non-participation. There are no tuition refunds under these circumstances.

Withdrawal

Students who wish to withdraw from the Studio for any reason must submit a written notice to the Artistic Director. The official date of withdrawal will be the date the Director receives the notice. Full refunds are available only before the beginning of classes. After classes begin, students will be refunded according to a schedule, which will be provided at registration.
