What does it mean to be part of our action committee?
It means to be a soldier on behalf of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, a fighter for culture, for theater, for art. It means, in a world of consistently lower standards, to be a member of a team hell bent on raising the bar of artistic excellence. It means being a builder, an entrepreneur, an important contributor to the cultural and educational life of New York City. Being a member of the Action Committee means being politically alive in a very real way; because you are taking palpable steps to make a better world…a world that promotes self expression, human growth and community regardless of economic or any other kind of background. For a long time the Stella Adler Studio of Acting has put what money we have where our mouth is by not only talking about cultural diversity but by actually doing something about it: we’ve given scholarships and done outreach work. We’ve invited artists of many different backgrounds to meet and work with our students. Leonard Bernstein said “This will be our response to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before.” So say we. The Stella Adler Studio of Acting will build a monument to theater art and education, a temple of human growth, a living legacy of positive energy and love. The Action Committee will lead the way.
